Last night I saw Yo La Tengo perform a live score accompanyment to Jean PainlevéSounds of Science, a collection of 8 of his aquatic films. The films themselves were awesome and about some of the best underwater creatures - sea anemones, jellyfish, sea horses, etc. While their score did match nicely to the films, none of the music was strong enough to me to be something I'd choose to listen to independent of the experience. Also, it's weird because you find yourself watching the films exclusively and not watching them at all (they weren't even lit). Overall though, the performance was pretty cool. Just not sure I'll go up to MassMoCA to see it again like I thought I would want to.
